The Power of Aura

The Power of Aura

Your aura. Can you sense it? It embraces you like a hug and protects you like a shield. It’s all around you, just waiting to be discovered (and perhaps, appreciated). If you feel so happy and healthy that you skip into a room, your aura fills it. And when you’re feeling down, your aura collapses inward, an energetic shell that isolates you from an otherwise chaotic world.

The aura is a seven-layer sphere of energy that connects your body with the earth’s atmosphere. It radiates both inward and outward. Everything that you experience, from emotions and energies to toxins and viruses, touches your aura first. If your aura isn’t healthy, you aren’t well.

Repairing and clearing your aura is vital to both your emotional and physical health. It there’s a hole, leak, tear, or toxin, it will affect your overall wellbeing. Donna Eden, author of Energy Medicine, recommends the Hook-up as the best technique for keeping your aura solid. This daily practice can center your energy and has immediate neurological impact.

To do the Hook-up, first, breathe through your nose and out through your mouth for about 20 seconds. Next, place your middle finger between your eyebrows above the bridge of your nose. Then place your other middle finger in your navel. Softly press each finger into your skin, pull it upward, and take at least three deep breaths. Hopefully you now feel strong and centered.

The aura made its official scientific debut in a Yale laboratory in the 1930s. Called the “biofield” by scientists, the aura comprises a measurable electromagnetic field that surrounds all living systems. Whether human or animal, tree or plant, the biofield is there. Numerous experiments throughout the decades since Harold Burr first discovered it have continually proven its existence.

Our auras are powerful. So naturally, many people don’t just want to sense theirs, they want to see it. In the 1970s, a camera was able to record the electromagnetic field surrounding the body through Polaroid photos taken with two exposures. The outcome is dreamlike, with streaks of color that beg for interpretation. Today, Christina Lonsdale, of Radiant Human, uses aura photography to explore perceptions and the human atmosphere.

Dr. Valerie Hunt, another pioneer of biofield studies, also explored what the biofield looks like—this time, through video. Using high-frequency recordings and computer color enhancement, she documented the human energy field radiating from the body.

Although most only feel their aura, some claim to see it–even without technology or cameras. There is evidence that each of the seven layers of our aura has its own color, and corresponds with one of the seven chakras, or centers of spiritual power in the human body. But these colors change as fast as our moods do. So those who truly see their aura see not just one color, but a rainbow. The seven chakras that sit within the aura also have their own ever-changing colors, whether or not you believe in the coordination of color between aura and chakra. Moral of the story? We’re very colorful people.

The aura precedes you everywhere you go; it’s hard to hide how you’re feeling because your energies give you away. So on your way to the world, allow your aura to greet it positively. Treat your aura well and the people around you will thank you. And you’ll feel happier and healthier too.
